November 20, 2011: One month

I’ve been in Chile for one month today. Oddly, it feels like longer. A few days ago, I noticed that walking through the streets of Valpo feels ordinary to me now. At the same time, it surprises me that I’m already 1/3 of the way through my time here. Time both drags and flies, the tricksy thing.

Today, I purchased my tickets to go to San Pedro de Atacama. Interior flights are relatively cheap here; it ended up being almost the same price for the plane (2 hour flight plus 2 hours busrides) as it would have been for the bus (24 hours). Now that I have concrete dates for that trip, I can start figuring out which expeditions are vital: salt flats, lagoons, and rock formations, oh my!

Here are some photos of another of Valpo’s plazas, Plaza Victoria.

Who's this? I don't know. Maybe it's Victoria.
Big ol' fountain, draped with plant life.

  1. What a purty town. And congrats on your one-month anniversary. How wonderful that you still have plenty of time remaining! Your upcoming adventures sound way cooooooooool-o. It’s 6:00 a.m. here. Can you say the same?

    1. It’s a very nice town. Come see me. Right now.
I’m afraid I cannot say the same. But I *was* awake when you were 6am-ing.

  2. Congratulations on passing the one-third mark! The rest of it will go quickly, and I hope you get to enjoy it even more than this first month!
